The Brain Training Debate
There is eternal debate about whether you can actually train your brain like other muscles in the body. Most recent research suggests that that playing games can be good for mental health. The general consensus is that by using puzzles and memory games on an ongoing basis, we can actually train the brain and keep it sharp well into our old age and possibly even prevent debilitating illnesses such as Alzheimer’s and even depression. Brain fitness is quickly becoming big business as the game industry realises the benefits of such activities. There is a vast array of free games that you can try before committing to a game that requires your hard-earned cash. It is probably wise to have a look at these first to get an idea of which game suits you. The reason that the brain fitness industry is growing so rapidly is that we live in an ageing population. Over the next couple of decades more and more will be spent on such past times as people fight the signs of ageing in an ever more scientifically aware society. A good example of the increased interest in brain training is that in 2004, there were 27 news pieces written about brain training. Just four years later that number had risen to 1,300. Scientists are now adamant that if you exercise your brain, using such games on a daily basis, you will sharpen your ability to use that game. In effect, your mental aptitude has increased overall. In short, and to pardon a pun, this sort of mental exercise is a no-brainer. Even if brain training doesn’t work, there can be absolutely no harm in giving it a go anyway. |
